A Few of my favorite things

I grew up watching musicals and one of my favorites was “Sound of Music.” Growing up, our house was filled with music, especially during the holiday season. Today, I thought I would share my list of favorite things for this holiday season.

I love to sit by the wood stove, read a book, and drink hot tea or cocoa. Before getting a wood stove, I never felt warm during the winter, but things have been different since we got our stove and now winter isn’t too bad. My favorite hot cocoa is from Real Mushrooms. You can purchase it from www.tulawilde.com. My favorite mugs since 2005 have been from Stewart Pottery. These mugs fit your hand in such a perfect way. Keith, the artist behind the ceramics, has been a friend of mine for many years.

I seem to clear a stack of books during the winter more than any other time of year. I credit this to the fact that it gets dark at 4:00 in the afternoon. I make a point to add to our Christmas book collection every year and I read from the stack to the kids every night during the Advent season. Our favorite book this year has been the Foxfire Christmas collection. In my work stack of books, I am reading my DUTCH hormone practitioner training book, The Great Menopause Myth, and Healthy Kids, Happy Kids.

I also love winter clothes. I enjoy layers and warm fuzzy sweaters, scarfs and mittens. Currently my favorite selection of these are from a local artisan. She is such a talented woman and you should check out her amazing work. Boots are also a must during winter to keep my feet from getting cold and I am loving my new Keen insulated boots this year. I say they are new, but I almost never buy anything new. I love to thrift or buy handmade. I don’t like the idea behind fast fashion and try to buy only what I need and quality clothes. I also like to sew and wish I had the time to sew my entire wardrobe, that would be so fun! Future goals, right?

As I have aged, my skin seems to dry out faster. I have really enjoyed using tallow products on my face, skin and lips this winter. I use the bloom whipped tallow from Tula Wilde and the evergreen lip balm. I trust the ingredients and the process used and know that I am not putting anything harmful on my body when I use Tula Wilde products.

So, here are a few of my favorite things. I will share some of my favorite recipes to cook for the holidays next time.

Ciao!
